Archeology Puglia: after 2400 years the (possible) head of the statue of Athena has been rebuilt. Was this the true face of the blue-eyed blonde goddess? – 3D video animation

The authentic statue – headless – now exhibited in the Castro city museum

A few days after the news regarding the public display of the fabulous statue of Athena – found during archaeological excavations in the territory of Castro (in the Province of Lecce ) and now exhibited in the city museum of the well-known Salento municipality – an expert 3D modeling and animation – Flipped Prof , youtuber stage name of prof. Marco Mellace (also author of the 3D reconstruction of ancient Taranto to which we had dedicated a previous insight that can be viewed here) – has decided to “return” in its own way the possible head of the blonde goddess whose cult represents one of the numerous traces of Magna Graecia in the Apulian territory:

Evidently based on the face of the bronze statuette of Athena Iliac , just over 12 centimeters tall and dating back to the 4th century BC (about 2400 years ago!), the digital reconstruction thus allows us to witness the “virtual reassembly” of the head of the Coeval statue instead 3 meters and 40 centimeters high :

In the third “personal” version of the digital reconstruction of the glorious ancient statue, the artist thus wanted to imagine the probable face of the statue dedicated to the goddess Athena – never found until now – which you will also notice in the animation on an altar and above the case which contains the statue recreated by the expert. Even in the reconstruction, Athena always appears blonde with blue eyes , based on Virgil ‘s description . I used the other statues to decorate the interior of the temple. I hope this content can be useful to you, I share it with great pleasure.
